Project Description

In the course of the implementation of the Project it is planned to carry out activities (workshops, common training, purchase of necessary equipment and vehicles), which aim at the improvement of the cooperation and experience change among border guarding institutions in field of service dog handling, in order to facilitate combating of cross-border criminal activities, decrease circulation of smuggled goods, decrease arrival of unlawful immigrants to the EU, to increase the security level in borderland regions, develop cooperation of the border guard institutions of Latvia and Lithuania in the area of service dog handling, to increase the education level of officials of the service dog handling area and to improve material and technical basis for training of dog handlers, more valuable detection and combating of criminal activities.

Activities will be driven towards acquisition of common knowledge in workshops, development of a common selection standards of dogs for border guard institutions, organisation of joint practical field trainings, taking into account the common challenges for guarding of the external border of the EU and protection of economic interests of the partnering countries. Alternatively, in order to ensure effective involvement of dog handlers and service dogs in the joint trainings and joint measures of border guarding, as well as in order to facilitate effective use of knowledge acquired during trainings in practice, the financial means of border guard institutions will be improved by the equipment and technique necessary for the use of dog handlers and which could be used for organisation of joint trainings.
